Megan Checks Out $3m Model In Our East
Sun Herald
Sunday February 9, 2003
WITH the auctions really not getting a kick along for another couple of weeks, Picket Fences has been checking out some of Sydney's new boutique developments. One thing is obvious, the quality is only getting better. One even turned the head of model Megan Gale. She had a close look at a Torrens title home by developer ASD's Michael Stevens, in Sisters Lane, Edgecliff. It has been listed for auction on February 19 through Bob Guth of Bradfield & Prichard Double Bay. The 300square-metre, three-bedroom, three-bathroom house with three-car garage is the sophisticated design of Ercole Palazetti. The living areas are stunning, each with a feature fireplace and all leading to a fabulous limestone patio and landscaped garden. And while Picket Fences thinks interior designer Garth Barnett is still Sydney's best, his bulky furnishings in this home detract a touch from the excellence in the craftsmanship. This quality comes at a price don't expect much change from $3million.
Soaring on the seaside
ANOTHER record has been set in Manly after three units in Victoria Parade sold for $5.5million midweek through Anthony Walls of Max Walls International. Prices in the northern beaches suburb are still on the rise and many properties are selling before auction. Only 18 months ago, 14 apartments in Darley Road right near the beach and five times the floor space of the block in Victoria Parade sold for $5.3million at auction. The successful bidder at that auction was recently offered $11million for the site. Walls also sold a house for $2.75million last week, achieving $275,000 over the reserve set for the auction later this month.
Anyone for billiards?
ONE of the delights Picket Fences has after working in real estate and development for so long and now at The Sun-Herald is the opportunity to meet the industry's best. Meeting Westfield co-founder, the late John Saunders, was one of those better moments. He had a brilliant business mind and a very kind and tolerant disposition and taught this columnist much about the property industry. His daughter Betty has listed her home in Victoria Road, Bellevue Hill, through Bart Doff of Laing & Simmons Double Bay. The beautiful four-bedroom home has a master suite with terrace, banquet-size dining room, extravagant living room, bar and billiards room and pool with level gardens.
Otto eyes rainforest home
ACTOR Miranda Otto, who stars in The Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers, has her eye on Double Bay property. And while Picket Fences saw her at one property in Glencoe Road, she was also seen spending a little more time at another in Manning Road. That four-bedroom home, which goes to auction on February 19 through Michael Pallier of Raine & Horne Double Bay, has been owned by hoteliers Rob and Lee Anderson for 30 years and is part of the Raine family estate. It is on 1000 square metres of rainforest and is expected to sell for more than $2million.
Marbled splendour on the hill
FOR the past eight years, Isaac Arbib of Avicor has been building luxury private residences and boutique apartments in the east. The last luxury residence he built in Bellevue Hill was sold to New Zealand golfer Michael Campbell and his wife Julie. Now his development Tingirana, in Benelong Crescent, has been listed for sale and one of the units will be auctioned on February 19 through Martin Maskin and Debbie Conrad of Raine & Horne Double Bay. This fabulous apartment with slab marble floors, stunning bedrooms and bathrooms, imported kitchens with Gaggenau appliances, golf course and harbour views is expected to fetch in the high $1million range.
Record at Melrose Park
PARK Hyatt executive chef Anthony Musarra and his wife, Louise, have just bought a stunning contemporary four-bedroom home in Macintosh Street, Melrose Park for $870,000, a record price for a non-waterfront property in the area. The sale was through John Paranchi of McGrath Residential. The Musarra family sold their two-storey home in Retford Estate, Burwood, last November for $680,000.
Looking for an inner glow
ADAM Glowka, a director of IT and telecommunications company Katalina Technologies, has listed his three-bedroom, two-bathroom home in a blue-ribbon parkside cul-de-sac in Lawrence Street, Alexandria, for February 22 auction through Walter Burfitt-Williams of Di Jones real estate. The price, expected to exceed $800,000, could set a record for the area.
This looks a purler
HAVING recently marketed the ``Ian Thorpe South Sea Pearl", Pearlautore owner Melvyn Placks and his wife, real estate agent Michelle Placks, have listed their three-bedroom apartment in Benelong Crescent, Bellevue Hill, through Ray White Double Bay. To be auctioned on March 4, it is expected to sell for about $1.2million.
Gossips got it wrong
IT just goes to show that rumours can't be trusted. After about 20 calls to Picket Fences from society matrons gushing about the sale of Kerry and Trish Manolas's house in Wolseley Road, Point Piper to Murdoch Magazines publisher Matt Handbury, interested buyers can be assured that the sale did not occur. The property is still on the market with a formal campaign starting in the next month. Inquiries should be directed to Ken Jacobs of Christie's Prestige Homes.
Tres chic home in Bellevue Hill
FRENCH provincial architecture and design have ensured that a unit in Birriga Road, Bellevue Hill, stands out from the rest.
It has three bedrooms, the main with his and her ensuites, while the living areas with fireplace open out to a large balcony and two Juliette balconies.
The doors to the kitchen open into the living area but, when closed, are camouflaged by the same panelling and skirting boards as used in the living room.
The main bedroom has a skylight with a difference. Instead of looking at the sky, you can watch people swimming in your pool on the upper-level private deck and garden. With six-car garaging with turntable and private lift, it is on the market for $2.55million directly from the developer, Bradley Childs of Empire Custodians.
Willesee workload means holiday home goes
IF romance reigns on Friday for St Valentine's Day and the fellas abandon a boys' night out to be with their main squeeze, Sydney pubs will probably be empty.
That won't be such good news for former current affairs presenter and head of Transmedia Michael Willesee, who owns a swag of Sydney's best. But Willesee is no stranger to romance. Who could forget his overt display of love for his wife, Gordana, at the Logies last year?
It was also about that time that Willesee showed his devotion to his children. Having listed his stunning home in Boat Harbour, Port Stephens, for sale, Willesee was so influenced by their love for the property he decided not to go ahead with the sale.
But after no one in the family spent any time there over the past year, he has listed it for auction on March 22 through James McCowan of McGrath Residential.
Flanked by the Tomaree National Park, the home enjoys views of One Mile Beach that can never be built out. Conceived by architect Pat Nicholas, the eco-sensitive design features two pavilions with an interconnecting bridge over a lap pool.
One pavilion is devoted to the master suite of rooms, the other to the living and dining areas.
